Equipment & Materials for Making Cakes

THE equipment and materials required by the home cake decorator are few, but they are important. If you intended to take up this work seriously, it is advisable to keep the equipment solely for icing work. All items should be thoroughly washed and dried after use and stored away from dust. The following are required:

• Icing tubes and screws
• Templates
• Pick boards
• Icing nails
• A pair of compasses
• A turn-table
• Icing bags
• Piping or greaseproof paper
• Earthenware basins
• Some thin cardboard
• Wooden spoons or spatulas
• A few small, water color paint brushes
• A palette knife
• A pair of scissors
