Silhouette Icing
This type of decoration will make a simple unusual topping for children's
party cakes, and subjects may be chosen from characters in nursery rhyme books,
flowers, animals or birds.
Trace the shape on to a piece of thin cardboard and cut out to make a
stencil, making outlines simple and clear.

Sift some icing sugar on the stencil or cut-out on top of the cake or sift over
some cocoa through a fine sieve. For this, a coffee strainer may be used, it
makes an ideal substitute.
Lift the stencils off very carefully. If this operation has been carried out
properly, there will be a perfect pattern top.
